Regardless of whether the master’s degree internships have been activated or not, you can ask for the optional credits of the External Internships programme to be recognised if you can document employment or professional experience.
Your employment or professional experience can be:
- prior to initiating the master’s degree, and either contracted employment or self-employment
- acquired during the master’s degree, as a result of contracted employment, self-employment or participation in extra-curricular internships
What are the conditions for applying for recognition?
For contracted employment or self-employment to be accepted, it must be equivalent to a minimum of one year on a full-time basis.
For employment or professional experience acquired on an extra-curricular internship programme to be accepted, there must be a minimum number of hours, which is the result of multiplying the number of ECTS credits of the internships to be recognised by 25.
How and when must recognition be applied for?
You must make the application on the dates and following the procedure described at:
Recognition for employment or professional experience
The application period usually opens and May and closes in October.
If you make the application before you enrol on the master’s degree, the total cost of the course will be less because recognised credits are cheaper than ordinary credits.
What documents must you submit for employment or professional experience to be accepted?
If you have acquired your employment or professional experience as part of the master’s degree’s internship programme, all you have to submit is a signed copy of the extracurricular internship agreement.
If you have acquired your employment or professional experience as a result of a contractual relationship or self-employment, you must submit the following documents:
Students who have made contributions to the Spanish social security system
- Working life report and additionally if it is a self-employed worker, copy of the termly declaration of income (form 130)
- Detailed report of the duties carried out by the applicant during the working experience documented. The report must be issued by the person in charge of the employing institution and must be signed, dated and stamped.
- Report produced by the student which explains the relationship between their work experience (jobs described in the previous document) and the specific competences of the master’s degree.
Other students
- Copy of an official document confirming the minimum requirement of a year’s full-time work experience (contributions to the social security system in the country, or similar, contract of employment, etc.)
- Detailed report of the duties of the student during the work experience. The report must be issued by the person in charge of the employing institution/company, and must give the dates employment started and finished. It must be signed, dated and stamped.
- Report drafted by the applicant which describes the relation between his/her work experience (the duties described in the previous document) and the specific competences of the master’s course.
Does the application for recognition have economic implications?
Yes, the application has economic implications. The applicant must pay:
- The recognition fee, which will be issued by the secretariat, in accordance with the prevailing decree on public prices.
- If the application is accepted, the student must enrol on the External Internship module for the number of credits recognized. The price of the credits is also set by the decree on public prices
It should be borne in mind that fees will not be returned if you wish to withdraw from the programme once enrolled.
