- The basic functions of the university are to create knowledge (research) and transmit it (teaching and transfer). The one cannot be understood without the other. Research is fundamental to quality teaching because it guarantees that the teaching staff refresh their knowledge. Activity in this area is entrusted to research groups. The departments that belong to the Faculty have seven research groups that are recognised as consolidated by the Generalitat (Catalan Government). Most of the Faculty’s full-time teaching staff belong to one of these groups.
